The kinds of homes I clean
Manhattan has grown over the years, but it still has that village feel. There are older homes closer to the center of town with character and history. There are newer subdivisions with modern two story homes and ranches, open kitchens, and finished basements.
Some homes sit closer to open land and farm fields, which brings a different kind of cleaning need. More dust, more mud, and more of the outdoors finding its way inside.
Common cleaning challenges
Dust from open fields
When farmers are working the fields in spring and fall, fine dust can blow into homes. It settles on window sills, furniture, and floors. Regular dusting keeps it from building up.
Mud season
Spring rain and thawing ground mean muddy shoes and paws. Entryways, mudrooms, and kitchen floors take the hit.
Pets who love the outdoors
Lots of Manhattan families have dogs who love the yard. That means hair, dirt, and paw prints. I plan extra time for floors in pet homes.
Busy family life
Even in a quiet town, families are running to school, sports, and work. Cleaning is usually the first thing to fall behind.

Why I love Manhattan
Manhattan is one of those towns that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the view. The Wauponsee Glacial Trail runs through the area, and the wide open prairie land at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie is not far away. For someone like me who loves being outside, it is a beautiful part of Will County.
Small towns run on trust. I know that when you let someone into your home in Manhattan, word gets around. I plan to earn a good word every single time.
Cleaning tips between visits
- Close windows on windy days when fields are being worked to keep dust out
- Keep an old towel by the back door to wipe muddy paws
- Use a boot tray all spring
- Shake out entry rugs outside every week
- Dust window sills more often in spring and fall
